“Would you, Katniss Everdeen, do me the extreme honor of being my bride?” He asked her. She laughed.

“Will you marry me, Katniss Everdeen?” Peeta asked again. Katniss grinned at him and shook her head.

“When are you going to stop joking, Peeta?” She asked.

“Katniss Everdeen, light of my life, the only person for me, the parachute to my free-fall, I wish you would start taking me seriously.” He said, sitting back.

Katniss started. “Wait-“

Peeta rolled his eyes. “Will you please, please, please marry me?”

Katniss nodded shyly, and threw her arms around him. “Yes.”

Everyone in District 11 donated sponsorship money for Rue and Thresh. There wasn’t enough money, in the whole district, to get either of them anything of value.

“Clove-” The woman said. Clove couldn’t even hear her own last name through the thunderous applause. They were cheering for her strength and maturity, but she felt faint. She stepped onto the stage and looked out onto the district. Based on the monstrous boy standing next to her, she knew it’d be her last glance. She looked at her friends, cheering the loudest. She looked where her dad stood alone, smiling and crying tears of joy for his only child. Next to him was the empty space her mother would’ve stood if she was alive, and Clove knew she’d be proud. And that was her only anchor to the stage and not to run away. She wanted to make her mother proud.

-

“God damn, Clove, there it is.” Cato mumbled in awe. He got up from his spot on the sofa and stood to the window, staring at the magnificent city before them. The Capitol. Clove was pulled to it like a magnet, her eyes glowing with excitement for the first time since the reaping.

“I’d win the Hunger Games a hundred times just to see this for a day.” Cato murmured.

“You’d win a hundred Hunger Games anyways.” Clove retorted, but she didn’t sound as convincing.

-

There she was, through the clearing. 12. The only thought in Clove’s head as she charged to Katniss was to make her mother proud, this is her last chance. Clove knew she wouldn’t last to the finals, not with Cato around, no matter how many times he told her he’d never touch a hair on her head.

Clove tackled the girl to the ground and taunted her, carefully choosing the right words. Insulting the ally, check. Insulting her love, check. Insulting her, che-

“CATO!” She screamed. “CATO! HELP!’

“Clove?” She heard her name softly, distantly. Clove burst into tears when the stone came again, and was dropped to the ground. Clove’s sight was gone. She felt Cato’s hand and lips on hers, but she desperately wished it was her mother. Pretended it was her hand.

Clove took one last breath, and

Effie stepped out of the shower and gazed into the mirror, at the person staring back at her.

Effie had gotten the pink out of her hair. It was finally the light brown it’d once been. Her eyes matched it with her contacts out.

She finally looked like a person again. She didn’t think she looked necissarily pretty, but she felt superficial with the mask on her face after the famed rebellion.

Effie stepped out of the bathroom carefully, and into the living room. Haymitch sat on their sofa, a newspaper in his hand.

“Wow, Effie.” He sounded slightly breathless, though he tried to hide it. “You’re beautiful.”

“Gale thinks we’ve got a thing for each other.” Katniss told Finnick one night. They were tying their knots again, tired and sad, but grateful for each other’s company.

“Really?” Finnick said in a monotone.

“Weird, right?”

“Weird.”

Neither of them thought it was that weird. They did have a thing for each other.
